The United States approves Samsung to continue supply screen to the Chinese company
Since Huawei's supply chain system was disrupted, any news about the resumption of supply to Huawei has seemed exciting. Samsung's resumption of providing OLED screens to Huawei seems to be a happy thing, but after careful analysis, perhaps we are too happy. OLED screens are relatively high-end mobile phone screens. Not only do they have low power consumption, but also have high contrast and fast response speed. Many flagship phones use OLED screens. But for a good flagship machine, a good screen is not enough. Is it necessary to install OLED screens on mid-to-low-end machines? Obviously, it will only increase the cost and reduce the cost-effectiveness of the product. Huawei, which has OLED screens, still cannot continue to produce high-end mobile phones. For Huawei, OLED screens are not the most in short supply.
In addition, OLED screens are different from chips. The manufacturing technology of high-end chips is originally in the hands of a small number of manufacturers. On high-end chips, such as TSMC and Samsung are irreplaceable, and no domestic manufacturer can achieve this level. But OLED screens are not. BOE's OLED screens are basically the same quality as Samsung and have developed rapidly in recent years. Samsung does not supply them. Huawei can purchase OLED screens from BOE. However, Samsung's continued supply will inevitably put more pressure on BOE. The US's tolerance for Samsung seems to be a help for Huawei. However, the opening of OLED screens is a temporary solution rather than a permanent cure. At best, it can only be regarded as icing on the cake, giving Huawei one more choice. In terms of high-end chips and other components, Huawei currently has no choice. This is the most critical point.
It is foreseeable that the United States will gradually allow more suppliers to supply Huawei, but most of these parts are replaceable. The purpose is not to solve Huawei's urgent need, but to seize the market of domestic suppliers. High-end technology can't wait. We welcome international opening. But if foreign brands can't buy it, we have to figure out our own solutions. Technology knows no borders. This is an ideal state. No matter how beautiful an ideal is, it cannot withstand the cruelty of reality. In terms of high-end technology, self-research is the long-term way. However, we should also be thankful that at least we have domestic high-quality suppliers like BOE, but the road is still difficult.
