What is the difference between Google Chrome and Linux Chromium?

Chromium is an open-source browser project that is the foundation of the Chrome browser. When Google first launched Chrome in 2008, it also released the Chromium source code. The biggest difference between them is that although Chrome is based on Chromium, Google has also added many proprietary features to Chrome, such as automatic updates and support for other video formats. Although Chromium is not a Google brand, it is still Google-centric. For example, Chromium includes the same synchronization features as Chrome, which can log in with a Google account and synchronize data. But Chromium lacks the crash reporting function provided by Google Chrome. If you choose to enable crash reporting in Chrome, information about the crash will be sent to Google. If Chromium is used, the crash report will not exist.

 

Chromium also lacks Chrome's usage tracking or "user metrics" feature. This is an optional feature that sends information about how users use the browser to Google and provides Google with data that can be used to make decisions. Chromium is very useful for allowing Linux distributions that require open source software, and some Linux distributions even use Chromium as their default web browser. If you are trying to avoid any closed source code, then Chromium is ideal. For Linux users who are not so keen on open-source software, Chrome is the best choice. If you are using Windows and Mac, the choice is very clear, of course, Google Chrome. After all, Chromium is too difficult to use. Chromium cannot get an official stable version that can be updated automatically.
